In Scotland she exhibited in 1982 and 1984 at the Crawford Arts Centre,
St Andrews, and at Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, (including the collage
works in this exhibition). Douglas Hall arranged the f rst retrospective
exhibition at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh (1989–90) establishing her
position as both a St Ives and a Scottish artist.
From 1994 till her death in 2004 she consistently exhibited new work
with Art First. Since 2005, historic themes have been presented at the
gallery in association with the Barns-Graham Charitable Trust.
She was awarded a CBE in 2001, the same year as the publi ca tion of the
monograph by Lynne Green, W. Barns-Graham: a studio life. She received
four honorary doctorates. In 2012 a centenary exhibition organised by
the Fleming–Wyfold Art Foundation, W. Barns-Graham: A Scottish artist
in St Ives, highlighted her role as a signif cant British modernist.
Barns-Graham is represented in public collections throughout the UK
including the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the Fleming–
Wyfold Art Foundation, T e British Museum, Tate, the Victoria & Albert
Museum, and many others.
