Kevin Laycock/Gillian Lever
Subliminal Language
9 January to 22 February, 2007

For Kevin Laycock, his assured new Uncertain Harmonies is evidence of a long painstaking journey to bring the artwork under his intuitive control by combining and maintaining the rigorous applications of process and structure. Laycock takes directly from music theory, in particular the theory relating to musical cadences and their relationship with the notion of visual consonance and colour scales.

Gillian Lever seeks to express the visceral responses to emotional extremes. It is no accident that her work has been used to accompany sacred music, and she openly links her work with her own spiritual journey. Literature and music inform her thinking to guide the specific intentions of each piece. The paintings communicate directly, unhindered by representation or narrative.
