Mimei Thompson studied at Glasgow School of Art, Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art. She was selected for Jerwood Contemporary Painters, the Marmite Painting Prize, Exeter Phoenix Open, and Studio Voltaire Open. She has done residencies at The Hex colony in Andersabo, Sweden, and at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Solo shows include Lunar Asparagus and The Year of Sleepwalking at Art First Projects, London, Mime 1 at Transition Gallery, London, an untitled solo at Trade Gallery, Nottingham, and Flies in My Eyes at Queens Park Railway Club, Glasgow. She has organised a number of exhibitions, including Inland Far at Herbert Read Gallery, Canterbury (with Susan Finlay), Now the Dream is Over at Blythe Gallery, London, and Baroque My World and If on a lonely night at Transition Gallery, London.
Three works were bought for the Arts Council England Collection, and she also has works in the collections of The University of the Arts, the Royal College of Art, Clare Hall College, and in various private collections in the UK, the USA, South Africa and Ireland.
